Northern Illinois University received $13.3 million in federal funding to help develop the Northern Illinois Proton Treatment and Research Center at the DuPage National Technology Park in West Chicago. The park is contiguous to the northern boundary of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, which in the late 1980s developed the first proton-therapy accelerator for use in cancer treatment.

Groundbreaking Information and Materials
A groundbreaking celebration for the Northern Illinois Proton Treatment and Research Center - the first cancer treatment and research center of its kind in Illinois - was held Thursday, June 19, at the facility site in suburban West Chicago.
The $159 million state-of-the-art center will be located at 777 Discovery Drive in the DuPage National Technology Park about 35 miles west of Chicago.
